Research Interests
My research focuses on generalized latent variable modeling for estimating and explaining individual differences across diverse measurement contexts. A current concern is how the metric and continuum of continuous latent variables are defined in item response theory and what practical consequences follow when functional-form assumptions are violated.
More broadly, I am interested in psychometric issues surrounding the measurement of psychological constructs. These include how validity and reliability are conceptualized in classical test theory and factor analysis. Within the item response theory framework, my interests extend to optimal test design, scoring, linking and equating, and differential item functioning.
I am also interested in the philosophy of measurement, particularly the philosophical issues and axiomatic systems concerned with establishing the equal-interval property of measurement scales.

Technical Skills
I primarily use R for data analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. Key packages include mirt (custom item response functions via createItem), lavaan (measurement and structural models, mediation analysis), lme4 (generalized linear mixed-effects models for multilevel and longitudinal data), brms (Bayesian estimation for generalized linear mixed-effects models), and galamm (generalized latent variable modeling). I am also familiar with Stan and JAGS for Bayesian parameter estimation. For Monte Carlo simulations, I usually use expand.grid, apply/map, and the tidyverse to generate simulation conditions, iterate across them, and summarize results.
